About the Product
The artichoke is one of the world’s oldest medicinal plants. Native to the regions of southern Europe, North Africa, and the Canary Islands it is the leaves that are used medicinally although the roots and the immature flower heads may also contain beneficial compounds.
Artichoke tincture has been used for centuries for indigestion where it is very helpful in stimulating appetite, for high cholesterol and for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). It is particularly good for supporting inadequate biliary and inadequate liver systems and so is useful in fighting liver damage from alcohol abuse and in treating jaundice and hepatitis.
It is widely used in southern Europe for non-specific digestive disorders as is can reduce nausea, abdominal pain, constipation and flatulence in the majority of people. It can also increase circulation.
Artichoke flavonoids –luteolin for example- have been shown to prevent LDL-cholesterol oxidation, an effect that may reduce risk of atherosclerosis.
Like all thistles it contains assimilable phosphorus so is very helpful for degenerative maladies of the nervous system.
