Applications The oil is notable for strengthening the body and relaxing the mind and has a generally positive effect on general health by increasing sweating in cases of fever and by regulating blood pressure. Hyssop is used as a calming expectorant where breathing is heavily congested and obstructed by bronchitis, catarrh, coughs, colds and sore throats. With its capacity to fortify the immune system against infections and viruses, hyssop may be used in the treatment and prevention of colds, flu and infections of the genito-urinary tract.
Hyssop oil in excellent for the treatment of inflamed or irritated skin conditions, will cleanse cuts and wounds and is particularly effective at dispelling bruising. Used to optimise mental strength and energy, hyssop will lessen anxiety, stress and fatigue, bringing a renewed alertness and focus.
Recent experimental studies have indicated that hyssop extracts may be useful in the treatment of hyperglycaemia. It has also been used with some success to inhibit the progress of the HIV virus. |

Safety Data Hyssop is unsuitable for taking orally. It should only be used in moderation and must be avoided by epileptics and during pregnancy. The pinocamphone content of hyssop makes the oil moderately toxic and may cause convulsions. It is otherwise considered non-irritant and non-sensitising. |
