Applications
Internally As a mouthwash or gargle to soothe inflammations of the mouth, gums, tongue, throat and tonsils, laryngitis and pharyngitis. Sage also has a beneficial cleansing action on ulcers and bleeding gums.
How to Use
In cooking – as a popular seasoning.
To make a healing tea : take 28g of herb to 1 litre of water just off the boil and infuse for 5-10 minutes. (3 to 4 cups taken daily)
Safety Data
Generally regarded as safe when used within the recommended dosage range but should be avoided during pregnancy, and in cases of epilepsy or high blood pressure.
About the Product
There is an old proverb, «He who has sage in his garden has no need of a doctor. » such was the great medicinal repute in which sage was held. Originally from the mediterranean, this wonderfully fragrant plant is now cultivated all over the world. Besides its use in cooking and as a digestif, sage is most commonly used medicinally to reduce excessive perspiration, and the various discomforts of periods, particularly for pre-menopausal women.
In Chinese medicine, sage is used for menstrual pain, abdominal pain, insomnia, hepatitis and hives.
Sage is a profoundly calming herb that has been used successfully in cases of depression or mental lethargy. It can elevate and sharpen the mind, improving energy levels and concentration.
